Yes! We love our wonderful and dear Pooches! We care for them
so much that we love to dress them up in all sorts of dog clothing. Take
for instance, a handmade Dog Scarf. These great looking little dog scarf’s
do come in all sorts of fun colors just to suit your dog’s personality.

I was recently researching “dog clothing” on some of the more well known
search engines. I was amazed at all of the many different things that we can
clothe our dog’s with. On one such search, I found tee shirts, dog scarf’s,
sweaters, jackets, coats and boots. There were designer sunsuit’s, petjama’s
and playsuit’s. Of course, not to mention your regular old “tuxedo and gown’s”
for the poochies who get married. How incredible! I was astounded at how
some websites really cater to the dog’s and their owners.

I personally have found that my two dogs love to get dressed up with lots of
dog accessories that I make for them. I love to Crochet and create new
things all the time for my two dogs to play with. I have made dog blankets,
dog scarf’s, dog necklaces, dog ball’s and fun loving dog toys. They can
play to their hearts content.

It’s a real joy to see how much your dog loves a new dog scarf or dog necklace.
You can see it in their eyes and how they play and prance around. You know
that you’ve made them one “happy pooch”. They love all the attention that you
give them and they play on that attention all day long! Enjoy your dog…they
truly are a Woman’s best friend.

Its fun to prepare crochet designs. It’s as fun and exciting for a beginner as to an expert crothetier. “CROCHET” the word comes with a lot of potential of creativeness and possibility to explore designs laterally.

Dog Sweater Crochet Pattern

Since we are now approaching the winter season, here are some steps on how to crochet a dog sweater. You may also include other accessories like dog raincoat and dog boots. When choosing for a yarn, be sure that it is comfortable for your dog. There are some yarns that can cause your dog skin irritation if you use it for your dog sweater.

When this happens, your dog’s hair might fall off. Before you start, be sure that you are familiar with the terms chain, single crochet, double crochet, half-double crochet, half-treble crochet, and slip stitch.

Here are some basic materials you will need: 4 ply worsted yarn (color will be your own choice), scissors, large eye blunt needles, crochet hook (gauge will depend upon the size of your yarn), tape measure, and accessories (optional). With these materials on hand, you are now ready to crochet your dog a sweater for this season.

Step 1: Measure the neck, front legs, chest, waist, and the length of the back of your dog using your tape measure. Jot down your measurements on a piece of paper.

Step 2: Make a chain. The chain should measure from the left upper front leg of your dog to his right upper front leg. For example, make 52 chains. Use double crochet second chain from the hook; double crochet in the next 49 chains (50 double crochets all in all).

Step 3: Turn. Chain 2. Double crochet in the next 49 chains. Repeat this procedure till the width of your pattern will cover from the neck to the shoulders area of your dog. Finish the last stitch and cut off the yarn leaving at least 5 inches. Pull the yarn with the crochet hook and secure its end to ensure that the yarn does not unravel.

Step 4: Count 10 dc (double crochet) from the first part and make a single crochet on the 11th dc. Use single crochet for the next 30 dc. Turn. Chain two and dc in each of the next single crochet. Turn. Chain two and dc in each of the next 30 double crochets. Repeat this procedure till the measurement covers the shoulders area to the back area (at the beginning of the tail). Cut off and secure remaining end.

Step 5: Repeat procedures one to four. Your pattern will look like a letter T. Follow the instructions below and sew it accordingly. Now that you know how to crochet a dog sweater, you could experiment using different or mixed colors to make it look adorable.

Free Crochet Patterns Sweaters

You likely have some sweaters thrown in the back of your closet, damaged with a stain, moth hole or two. Instead of tossing old and unused sweaters, turn them into something new and completely lovable. You can also look for inexpensive sweaters at the thrift store. Crafting with old sweaters saves money on craft materials and helps to reduce your household waste.

Yarn – If you knit, crochet or even weave, salvage the yarn from an old sweater to use in a new project. Find a seam in the sweater and carefully snip one of the seam stitches with a pair of very sharp scissors. Use a blunt needle to lift out the seam stitches, snipping the seam yarn for each. For a knit sweater, you want to unravel the yarn from the cast off edge, generally at the top of the sweater since sweaters are made from the bottom up. Start ripping from the last cast off stitch and carefully wind the yarn into a ball as you go. You should end up with four or more balls of yarn from the different sweater pieces.

Felt – Sweaters that are at least 20% wool can be felted in your washing machine. 100% wool sweaters will give a sturdier felt for different crafts. Make sure the sweater has not been treated to make it washable, such as “superwash, ” as these will not felt. Throw the sweater into a zippered delicates bag and wash on high heat. Dry on high heat, cleaning the lint trap frequently. Some sweaters require more than one wash and dry to fully felt. The sweater will eventually shrink dramatically and will be ready to cut apart!

Pillows – Use a pillow form to help you measure and mark the size for your throw pillow on the old sweater. You need a sewing machine for this project or a bit of patience with hand sewing.

Potholders – Stitch several layers of the old sweater together and add binding or trim around the edges to create potholders. You can also use thick quilt batting to fill the inside of your upcycled sweater potholder.

Plastic Bag Holder – Have a dog you need to clean up after on walks? Use the sleeve of an older sweater to create a handy plastic bag holder to hang from a door. The stretchy wrist end is perfect for the bottom and you don’t even need to stitch it closed. Just cut the shoulder seam and sew a neater edge. You can add embellishments such as ric – rac at the edges or cut out “Dog Walk” in fabric letters and appliqué to the sweater sleeve. Loop a piece of elastic and sew to the top to hang from a door.

Brooches – A brooch adds instant style to any jacket, sweater or bag. Either felt the sweater first to prevent unraveling or double – stitch a flower shape with your sewing machine. Use a fabric pencil to mark a simple floral design and double stitch over this design. Cut out the shape at least 1 cm away from the stitch line. Stitch and cut out another floral shape slightly smaller than the first. Layer the two flowers and sew together with an interesting button.

Coffee Cup Sleeves or Water Bottle Cozies – Cut a band in your old sweater sleeve to make a coffee cup sleeve, or use a larger piece of the sleeve for a water bottle cozy. You can felt the sweater first to make a more solid material fit for embroidery and other embellishing.

Paper Craft – Cut out small pieces of wool for embellishing scrapbook pages or handmade cards. Cut out letters or even tiny sweater or scarf shapes for autumn. Make a wonderfully textured tree with an old fuzzy angora sweater.

Blanket or Quilt – If you have several old sweaters, turn them into lovely blanket or quilt. You can cut the sweaters into blocks or varying shapes, and even use the ribbing for the edges of the blanket. Some sweaters may be too thick for the sewing machine, so you will have to pin and hand – sew pieces together with right sides facing and ½ inch seam allowance. If seams do not lay flat after steam – ironing, hand – stitch seams to back of the blanket. Thinner sweaters can be sewn with the sewing machine and can be given a fabric backing.

Toys – Whether felted or not, old sweaters are a great material for making toys or stuffed animals. Create a puppet with the sleeve of a sweater. Hem the cut edge to prevent fraying. To make the head of the puppet, you can simply sew the cuff together straight across or trim a curved line and sew. For a puppet with hair, gather a few inches of the cuff and weave the thread back and forth. Pull tight and secure the thread. Cut off some of the gathered cuff to leave fuzzy hair.

Crochet Sweater Patterns Free

If we are considering doing some Crochet Sweater Patterns then it is probable that we have some experience of crochet patterns, however we may be still in the early days of our new found hobby but just a little bit more confident and ready for a bigger project. The beauty of Crochet Sweater Patterns is that they come in all shapes and sizes and therefore also in all levels of difficulty. Don’t be put off if you see a pattern with a number of stitches which are unfamiliar there are so many to learn over time and we need not try to remember them all just reference them as required. 2. Don’t be put off by seeing stitches in the pattern we don’t know yet, now’s as good a time to learn them. We will have to learn a lot of stitches over time and most we will forget, we just need to take a look at the instructions now and then and re-learn them as we need them.
3. Sweater Patterns are unforgiving, so make sure you have sufficient wool before you begin and make sure it is all the same shade. I like to try to get all the wool from the same batch this will make sure the color is an excellent and consistent match
4. Don’t over stretch check the level of difficulty and be comfortable.

The most popular choice for Crochet Sweater Patterns is of course for newborn babies. They can be such a joy to make, don’t need a lot of wool and can be done quickly as we get more experienced.

Often it is from this stage of our new found hobby that we are tempted by the compliments from some suggesting we could sell our end result sweaters, and of course the lovingly crafted sweater is a far better product than shop bought. However here is the problem with this. Most people have the price point in their mind from those that are sold in the shop and in my opinion you won’t be able to obtain the real value of the sweater back. All the hours you put in will not be of any interest to the buyer only the price. If you are making more than you can use by all means sell them on, many people are ready to buy quality products, however don’t think of it as a business more as a small return to invest in more wool and supplies.
